I want you to change the way you look at your life, your business, your career and how you think about a lot of what you do in your life. I want you to do this because there is a pretty good chance that you are looking at things from the wrong point of view. And once you change that point of view wonderful things can happen.
We often spend a lot of time trying to look our best, do our best and try to be the best at whatever it is that we do. And there is nothing wrong with doing that. But the problem is that unless we understand exactly what people want from us or our businesses, we might waste a lot of time trying to give people stuff they don’t want.
What everybody wants is solutions. Solutions to their problems or their needs. People are not necessarily looking for the best applicant or the best product, they are looking for the best solution to their specific needs or problems. If you want to be successful, you need to learn how to position yourself as the best SOLUTION, not the best applicant.
Think about that for a moment. The person who gets the job might not have the best experience or the fanciest degree but something else might make his the best solution to the bosses problem. The best product might not be the best designed or the fanciest or the most expensive. But if that product addresses a specific need better or cheaper than anything else, that product can become a real winner.
If we start looking at ourselves as trying to be the best solution to a problem, our mindsets change. We no longer concentrate on things that do not matter. Instead, we concentrate on needs and problems and marketing ourselves and our products as the best solutions to those problems.
This means making every effort to understand what people are looking for and then providing as much of that as we possibly can. We should not be selling ourselves or our degrees or even our products to others. Instead, we should be selling solutions to people. If those degrees help make us better solutions, then fine. But people don’t necessarily care where that degree came from or what features your product has. What they are looking for is how you or your product can help make their lives better, easier or richer.
If you can market yourself and your business as the best solution, you won’t have all that many problems.
